Methodology

This audit was conducted in 2024 by citizen volunteers using a structured survey instrument on KoboToolbox. At each bus stop, surveyors observed and recorded the presence or absence of 18 facilities: designated shelter, overhead roof (and its condition), seating (and condition), name board, route map, bus information board, digital display, lighting, CCTV, drinking water, dustbin, toilet, complaint box, ramp, handrails, footpath, pedestrian crossing, and cycle parking.

Each stop receives an Overall Score (out of 100) based on weighted presence of these facilities. Higher-impact amenities like shelter (12), roof condition (12), pedestrian crossing (10), seating (10), and route information (10) carry more weight. Supporting amenities like lighting, toilet, CCTV (5 each), and minor ones like dustbin, handrails (2 each) complete the score.

A separate Heat Preparedness Score (out of 10) measures readiness for extreme summer heat, based on four factors: shelter (3), roof condition (3), drinking water (2), and seating (2). With Delhi recording temperatures above 45°C in recent summers, this score highlights which stops leave commuters most exposed.
